Caring for Dragonkind - Intro

taught by retired wrangler Tanniym Nonesuch

My twin brother Justice contacted me some time ago with regard to teaching a course dealing with Dragonkind  after he was approached by head of the ocademy's Fabled Creature & Endangered Monsters department.

I'm the older twin. by a few minutes. Family tradition dictates that the first born male of each generation is named by the oldest surviving male ancestor, in our case, great grandfather Drago Fieraru, our grandmother's father was the oldest. He was born in the Transylvania mountains of Romania just prior to the 20th century. He and his wife had only female children, so they were pleased to have the opportunity to name us.

My brother was named Justete Aesculus. I was named Tanniym Treapta.  As children, we learned that my brother's name translates to "Justice Oak" and mine to "Dragon Stone" in Great Grandfather's mother tongue. His name was also a derivation of "Dragon."

Consequently, it's no surprise I have had a lifelong interest in dragons, beginning at an early age. Research has provided information. Fact, fiction and various theories (both written and my own) have all enriched my understanding.

This course will deal with a number of facets concerning dragonkind with everything from myths to misconceptions about the creatures and their life cycle. For now, I will simply pose a question. If dragons are merely mythological, then why is there a word for "dragon" in over 200 modern, ancient and "dead" languages?

Let's find out together.
